Q.

Which of the following acts allowed the participation of non-official Indians in legislation?

Explanation:
  • Indian Council Act of 1861 provided for establishment of legislatures in the Presidencies and extension of Viceroys council. As per the act, Indians could be nominated to the Supreme Legislative council for legislation. This was the first time where non-official Indians could participate in legislation. The councils function was limited to legislation and could not take part in execution. Usually the British selected those Indians like the landlords or the rulers/ministers of the Princely States who could provide support to the Crown rather than oppose it. Because the role of Indians was limited and their number too few, the INC from the beginning demanded reform and expansion of Imperial and Provincial Legislative Council.

Thus, Option A is Correct.
